An update to the information below –
as at 30 June 2009
The field trip enrolments have now closed,
and we have a total of 25 participants from many countries!
Only one request for a pickup at the
Airport has been received, and as we can make other arrangements, we will
NOT be going via the Airport!
So we hope to leave from the
Convention Centre at 9 a.m. sharp.
See you there!
An update to the above information
– as at 15th June 2009
Cost:
A$645.00 per person covers bus travel, daily pack lunches, morning and afternoon
refreshments, field guide, and accommodation each night in shared rooms with
twin beds (not including costs of breakfast or evening meals).
And below -
more on the field trip – as at 15th June 2009
I suggest a
warm coat and other warm clothing, and either a waterproof coat or an umbrella.
(See likely weather conditions below).
If it
rains (we have been in a drought in SE Australia) there may be showers, or even
heavy rain for half a day or so, if we are unlucky!
It can
also be windy, as well as cold.
(In fact
in Melbourne we are now having the first good rain for some time, with sunny
periods between, and a forecast temperature of 12 degrees C.)
Light
hiking boots, with a change of shoes for the evening, will normally be
sufficient.
On the
first day we will cover about 350 km, and about 200 km on each of the following
three days.
We will
have some spare seats and good luggage space, so you can bring as much luggage
you want.
Travel will be in a
Grenda 5 Star Coach (48 seats) with climate control,
toilet facilities, tv/dvd and hot/cold drinking water.
Stops may
be short, or long, partly depending on the weather.

It will
help the hotel/motel managers if I can provide them in advance with a list of
names showing who you would like to share accommodation with each night (shared room with twin beds). This will make it
quicker when we arrive each night.
If I donŐt hear from
you in advance we can work it out when we arrive each night.
And if you have any special
food requirements for the daily pack lunches, please let me know NOW.
I will be arranging for
meat and also some vegetarian sandwiches or rolls, as well as cakes, drinks and
fruit.
Meeting place
and time
Start date: Friday 3 July 2009
Starting
time at the Convention Centre - 0900
This is a
pre-conference trip, and we will start and finish at the Convention Centre,
then perhaps travel via Melbourne Airport to collect any early morning plane
arrivals, and then to Geelong and beyond into Western Victoria.
Anyone
who plans to arrive in Melbourne on Friday 3rd July, and would like
to be picked up at the airport, MUST let me know as soon as possible, as
otherwise we will NOT go via the Airport!
The bus
will depart from the car park for the Hilton Hotel, behind the new Convention Centre. If in
any doubt you can go to the front door of the Convention Centre (facing the old
sailing ship) and someone will come and look for you.
Finish date: Monday 6 July 2009
We will be aiming to arrive
at the Conference Centre at 1700, so that participants can register
(Registration Desk open 1400 - 1800) and then take part in the Welcome
Reception (1800 - 1900).
It may be possible to arrange for the
driver to take some participants and their luggage direct to their city at
1700, but this will depend on arrangements to be made on the day.
