The Baragwanath Geology Research Scholarships
are awarded to outstanding candidates studying for MSc or PhD degrees
in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne.
These prestigious scholarships were established from the bequest
of the late George
Baragwanath in 1996 in memory
of his father William
Baragwanath. The scholarships
are awarded to support research or experimental work in Geology
on the recommendation of the Head, School of Earth Sciences. The
Scholarships are tenable in any field of Geology in which the School
is currently active.
Applications are invited from students having,
or nearing completion of, a BSc(Honours), MSc degree or equivalent
in some branch of geological science. The Baragwanath Scholarships
provide a tax-free living allowance and other benefits as detailed
below.
Main benefits of the Baragwanath
Scholarships
- Up to $20,000 per annum living allowance, for
PhD students
- Up to $10,000 per year for MSc students
- paid for three years (full time) for
a PhD, and 18 months for an MSc (full-time)
- may be extended for another six months,
providing candidature is also extended
- Part-time awards are also available at
the level of 50% of the full-time award
Other benefits
Commencement
- Normally to be taken up between 1 January
and 31 March in the year for which they are granted
- Later starting times may be allowed with
the agreement with the Head, School of Earth Sciences
- Awards cannot be deferred to the following
Academic Year.
